Porthkerry Dental Centre

Owain qualified at the University of Wales College of Medicine, Dental School in 1995 and became Principal Dentist at Porthkerry Dental Centre in 2003. Prior to this he worked in general dentistry in Swansea and Llanelli, a specialist orthodontic practice in Llanelli and held clinical assistant posts in Oral Surgery, Restorative Dentistry and Orthodontics at the Oral & Maxillofacial Unit, Morriston Hospital, Swansea. He completed his Implant Diploma with the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh in 2014. He enjoys outdoor activities, especially cycling, golf and skiing, and is keen rugby supporter.

Porthkerry Dental Centre has been a Foundation Training Practice since 2004 and Owain and his team are looking forward to their 12th Foundation Dentist. All staff are aware of their responsibilities to the FD. The Practice is easily accessible by car or train; there is a train every 20 minutes from Cardiff Central.

The FD surgery was refurbished in 2017 with modern equipment, using EXACT software, digital x-rays and rotary endodontic systems (Wave). Barry has a wide variety of patients; some requiring only maintenance care but many with high dental needs. The foundation dentist will gain a lot of experience in all areas of general dentistry, especially extractions, root canal treatment and prosthetics.

Rebecca qualified at the University of Wales College of Medicine, Dental School in 2004, she joined Porthkerry Dental Centre for what was meant to be her Dental Foundation year only but decided a career with us was exactly what she was looking for and has been an asset to us ever since.

Roshni qualified at the University of Wales College of Medicine, Dental School in 2015. She joined the Practice 2016, initially as a locum dentist she proved very popular with patients and staff and decided to stay, on a permanent contract.

Rachel completed a Combined Diploma in Dental Therapy & Hygiene in Cardiff 2009, she is the newest member of the team, joining in 2017. Rachel previously worked in Swansea but after recently starting a family, has decided to work closer to home.

Gemma joined the Practice in 2006, gaining her Dental Nursing qualification in 2008. She has been Practice Manager since 2011.

Gemma has been part of the team since 2007, gaining her Dental Nursing qualification in 2011. She became Head Nurse in the same year and continues to offer excellent support to the nursing staff and Practice Manager. Gemma has three children and instructs a ‘turn’d up’ dance class two nights a week.

Alison has been part of the team since 2008 and gained her Dental Nursing qualification in 2013.

Holly started a career in dentistry at the University Hospital Wales in 1997, she gained her qualification in 1999 before taking a career break to raise her family and joining us in 2012.

Victoria joined Porthkerry Dental in 2011 as a trainee and gained her Dental Nursing qualification in 2013.

Makayla joined the Practice in 2013. She successfully completed her National Diploma in Dental Nursing in 2015.

Adele joined the Practice in 2012. She has been our head receptionist since 2014 and offers invaluable support to administration and clinical staff.
